Billboard Introduces New Digital Channel Dedicated to Latin Music
Streaming plays reached 2.8 million U.S. clicks in the week ending March 29 (up 131 percent, according to Nielsen Music), pushing “Perdon” 3-1 on Latin Streaming Songs and making the track only the second to reach such a lofty streaming sum on the now two-year-old chart. Only Iglesias’ pop crossover smash “Bailando,” featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona, has crossed that threshold, peaking with 4.3 million plays on the Oct. 4, 2014, chart (with both the Spanish and English-heavy versions combined).
A music video for “El Perdon,” backed by the YouTube Music Awards (YTMAs), was released March 23 along with a number of other video clips affiliated with the program by artists including Ed Sheeran, Charli XCX and FKA Twigs, among others. As of April 2, “El Perdon” has logged 18.3 million worldwide views, exceeding the views of any other official YTMAs video by more than 12 million (“Don’t Look Down,” by Martin Garrix featuring Usher, has 5.9 million views) in the 10 days since the videos simultaneously premiered. Jam was the only Latin winner in the virtual awards, celebrated for his popularity in terms of growth in views, subscribers and engagement on the site.
